4.4 Conclusie

Deze studie heeft bijgedragen aan het inzicht over het probleemgedrag van kinderen en de rapportage van probleemgedrag door ouders. De factor die het meeste invloed heeft op het externaliserend probleemgedrag van kinderen is de expliciete stereotypen van vader, deze hebben specifiek effect op hun dochters. Wanneer vaders sterkere expliciete stereotypen hebben laten de dochters meer externaliserend probleemgedrag zien. Er kan dus geconcludeerd worden dat vaders meer onderscheid maken tussen jongens en meisjes dan moeders dit doen. Ook hebben de stereotypen van vader verschillende invloeden op jongens en meisjes en zijn deze dus op een verschillende manier gevoelig voor de stereotypen van vaders aangezien er alleen een significant effect wordt gevonden van de stereotypen van vader op meisjes en niet op jongens. Verder blijken de stereotypen van vader meer invloed te hebben op het gedrag van kinderen dan de stereotypen van moeder. De verschillen tussen ouders die worden gevonden in de rapportages van probleemgedrag kunnen gedeeltelijk worden verklaard door de stereotypen van de ouders. Er wordt geen invloed gevonden van de stereotypen op het internaliserend probleemgedrag, mogelijk doordat er andere ouder kenmerken zijn die meer invloed uitoefenen op de kinderen zoals de depressiviteit van de ouder, sensitiviteit, gehechtheid en de emotionele betrokkenheid.

Toekomstig onderzoek moet zich meer richten op het specifieke effect van de

stereotypen op het probleemgedrag of de rapportage om een duidelijker beeld te krijgen van het verband. Er zal moeten worden onderzocht of deze het daadwerkelijke gedrag van kinderen beïnvloedt of de interpretatie van de ouders ervan. Ook zou kunnen worden onderzocht of de gevonden verbanden cultuur afhankelijk zijn en dat ze in een meer heterogene steekproef ook worden gevonden.
