Het doel van het huidige onderzoek was om te onderzoeken of de Engelse productieve taalvaardigheden van leerlingen uit de tweede lichting van tweetalige groepen 7 waren verbeterd ten opzichte van de eerste lichting. De hypothese was dat er een stijging in de leerprestaties zichtbaar zou zijn, aangezien de scholen naar aanleiding van ervaringen binnen het eerste jaar verbeteringen in hun tweetalig onderwijs hebben toegepast. Daarnaast was de verwachting dat een aantal andere kind- en schoolgebonden factoren de leerprestaties zouden beïnvloeden, namelijk het geslacht, de leeftijd, de meertaligheid en de moedertaal van een leerling, het percentage onderwijstijd in het Engels, de ervaring van de leerkracht en de gehanteerde onderwijsmethode. Uit de resultaten bleek dat de eerste hypothese moest worden verworpen; er was geen verschil zichtbaar tussen de productieve taalvaardigheden van de eerste en tweede lichting. Ook bleken niet alle kind- en schoolgebonden factoren van invloed te zijn op de scores. Alleen de ervaring van een leerkracht met lesgeven in het Engels en de meertaligheid van een leerling bleken significante voorspellers van de variantie in de scores te zijn, waarbij meertaligheid en meer ervaring beide resulteerden in hogere scores. Daarnaast bleek er nog een andere factor van belang te zijn, namelijk de gehanteerde onderwijsmethode.

Leerlingen die werden onderwezen met de One Teacher, One Language benadering presteerden beter dan de leerlingen die werden onderwezen met de Sandwich en One

Situation, One Language benaderingen. Uit het onderzoek kan geconcludeerd worden dat één jaar aan schoolervaring met het tweetalig onderwijzen van groep 7 niet genoeg is om een significante verbetering te zien in de Engelse productieve taalvaardigheden van leerlingen.

Vervolgonderzoek kan zich richten op latere lichtingen, om na te gaan of meer ervaring met het tweetalig onderwijs wel in een verschil zal resulteren.
