Self-adaptive and self-healing nanocomposite
tribocoatings
by
Huatang Cao
1. Tribology poses one of the greatest challenges to the scientific and industrial communities.
2. Due to its anisotropic hexagonal layered structure, easy glide takes place in WS2 under weak Van der Waals forces (Chapter 1).
3. Diamond-like carbon (DLC) is arguably the only material that can provide both high hardness and low friction under dry sliding condition, making it an ideal candidate as matrix material for WS2 (Chapter 3 & 4).
4. The sulfur/tungsten ratio affects the tribological properties (Chapter 3 & 4).
5. Instant reorientation of WS2 basal planes occurs under dry air sliding contact (Chapter 5).
6. Self-healing tribocoatings lift the prerequisites of flawless coatings and increase tribo-efficiency in practical applications (Chapter 6). 7. Major contributions to mankind are characterized by many small
stepping stones of success and failure.
8. You cannot expect more than your utmost best.
9. The wise are free from perplexities, the virtuous from anxiety and the bold from fear – 智者不惑; 仁者不忧; 勇者不惧 (Confucius).
