E-REVIEW
Introducing Electronic Media Reviews
Sjoerd van der Linde
Leiden University, The Netherlands
Since its inception in 1995 this journal has published reviews of relevant books, journals and conferences with the aim of catering for the growing interest in the fi eld of archaeological conservation and management, for active professionals, university academics and students.
During this time our discipline has witnessed a growing number of electronic journals, digital archives, websites, blogs, multi-media and electronic discussion groups, often driven by the desire of practitioners, organizations and interested parties to communicate with peers and the wider public. While books and journals are often rigorously peer-reviewed, this is perhaps less true for electronic resources. In addition, many debates and opinions (often originating from outside our discipline) have become available not through conventional peer-reviewed publications, but rather through electronic, publicly available resources.
This new section of CMAS aims to provide information and reviews of electronic resources in the fi eld of archaeological site conservation and management, to help to draw attention to this material and to further discussion. These e-reviews will start in the next issue (9.2).
The e-reviews will cover such issues as access, content, user-friendliness, target audience, archiving, referencing, usefulness, maintenance, design, system requirements, etc. The e-review section of CMAS is a work in progress, which hopefully will develop to become a useful tool for the readership. We very much welcome comments, suggestions and assistance by our readers to increase its scope and effectiveness. In addition, we welcome suggestions for electronic resources to be reviewed, and for offers to review material.
Please contact Sjoerd van der Linde for further information, suggestions for review, or to submit a review yourself.
