Curriculum Vitae
The author of this thesis was born on the 4th of April 1985 in Oldenzaal, the Netherlands. After finishing his pre-university education (VWO) at the Twents Carmel Lyceum in Oldenzaal in 2003, he started studying chemistry at the University of Groningen (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). He received his bachelor’s degree in 2008 after finishing a research internship on the synthesis of a new molecular motor under the supervision of prof. dr. B. L. Feringa. Successively, he started a master’s study in organic chemistry at the University of Groningen and obtained his master’s degree in November 2010. Two research internships were carried out as part of his master’s study. First, he studied the formation and modification of self-assembled monolayers with the goal of creating a catalytic, autonomous moving propulsion system under the supervision prof. dr. B. L. Feringa at the University of Groningen. The second research internship was performed at the R&D center of Sasol in Sasolburg (South Africa) on the catalytic tetramerization of ethylene to 1-octene.
In April 2011 he started his PhD studies at Leiden University in the bio-organic synthesis group under the supervision prof. dr. G. A. van der Marel and dr. D. V. Filippov. Parts of the research described in this thesis were orally presented at The Dutch Peptide Symposium (2013), the CHAINS symposium (2014), the University of Cambridge (2014) and the University of Copenhagen (2015). Furthermore, posters on parts of the PhD research were presented at the International Peptide Symposium/American Peptide Symposium (USA, 2013), the PARP family and friends meeting (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, USA, 2014) and at various national meetings.
He started as Scientist at ProQR Therapeutics in Leiden in September 2015 and was promoted to Senior Scientist in September 2016.
