A m o n g s t u n i v e r s a l f e a t u r e s of h u m a n l a n g u a g e the v e r b t a k e s a p r e v a i l i n g p o s i t i o n i n a s m u c h as it is t a k e n as the c e n t r a l u n i t of a s e n t e n c e . For i n s t a n c e , B a k e r ’s I n c o r p o r a t i o n (1988) t a k e s the v e r b as the p i v o t a l l e x i c a l u n i t f r o m w h i c h his " t h e o r y of g r a m m a t i c a l f u n c t i o n c h a n g i n g " d e v e l o p s . The n o u n in E m a k h u w a is g e n e r a l l y m a d e of a p r e f i x and a n o m i n a l stem. N o u n s d i s p l a y i n g the same c o n c o r d p r e f i x are s a i d to b e l o n g to the same class.
