I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. Huizinga for introducing me in the PhD training program in the LUMC, and also to Prof. Dr. Toes and Dr.
Leendert Trouw for the continuous support of my PhD study and research, for their patience, motivation, enthusiasm, and immense knowledge.
Also I would like to thank Dr. Monkol and Prof. Suchela from Thailand for giving me a chance to be here for training and I also thank Ramathibodi Hospital for the grant.
I would also like to express my appreciation to Nivine for practical work in the lab, Linda for working in the freezer and Hanane for being a good companion in my hard times.
Moreover, I would like to thank our collaborators within the LUMC, Maarten van Tol and Els Jol-van der Zijde from the department of Pediatrics, Manfred Wuhrer and Caroline Koeleman from the Parasitology for sharing their knowl- edge and technical support. Within the Netherlands I also highly appreciated the collaboration with Lotte van de Stadt, Karin Britsemmer and Dirk-Jan van Schaardenburg from the JBI|READE. Also the very pleasant collaboration with colleagues from around the world, including Helga Radner, Günter Steiner from Vienna, Austria and Hani El-Gabalawy from Canada was much appreciated!
I thank Rachel, Angga, Wing-yee and James (from Hongkong) for many hot pots and many thanks for my Thai-friends in Leiden (Pui, Dome, Kanchana, Piya, Yos, Sun and Max) to be my second family and for a very nice time we had together.
Importantly, I would like to thank my family for mental support, especially my
mother, who was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, for inspiring me to be a
rheumatologist.
