APPENDIX 1: LETTER TO THE COMPANIES
Dear companies,
My name is Gert Jan Nagel and I am a fourth year student International Business & Management at the University of Groningen (Netherlands). At this moment I am doing my master (MA) research about the influences of cultural differences in the process of international acquisitions. The focus of my research is 513 German companies who did an acquisition in the year 2000. Since all of your companies did so, you randomly turned out to be part of the sample of my research.
For my research, I am interested in the post-acquisition performance of you as an acquiring company. Therefore, I would like to know the ROA (return on assets = profit before tax / total assets) of the year before the acquisition namely 1999 and the ROA of two years later, 2002. Furthermore, I am interested whether your company considers itself as a Multinational Company or not and a rough estimation of the amount of employees in 1999. For these figures, I made use of several databases but for your companies I was not able to find all the required data. Therefore, I would like to ask you if you are able to find the time and willingness to help me in my further research by please filling in the answers below. If you are interested in the outcomes of this research I can sent you the final report. For now, I would like to thank you in advance.
Yours Sincerely, Gert Jan Nagel Phone 0612142383
