Letter Region managers

Dear Region Market Mangers,

As you know, we are currently reviewing our auto show program. There are 4 major components of this review. We have completed the first three:

1) Review of the structure of each show (size, attendance, and sq. ft.) 2) Review of the market & competitors

3) Review of the existing budget.

4) Regional Input

Attached, please find a list of shows we are considering for national support. This is where step 4 comes in. We need your input. Based on the attached list, please provide your input on each show in your respective regions.

Should it be supported nationally?

What has been your region's philosophy for supporting these shows in the past?

Are there shows you feel should be considered, but aren't on the list?

Please respond to me no later than Monday, July 14th, 2003.

If you have any questions, please contact me directly.

Thank you for your input, it is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards, Caroline Henneman

Letter Market managers Dear Market Managers:

As you know, MBUSA is reviewing our current auto show program. The review will consist of two sides: the show structure and the market. We have taken the first step by reviewing the show structure.

Beginning with the model year ’04 Auto show season, which begins at the California Auto Show (Oct.29-Nov.2), shows will no longer be categorized by A-B-C-D. Shows will now be categorized by nationally supported and regionally supported. All former A-B-C shows will become nationally supported shows. This will include payment by Home office of floor space, exhibit components, show services and vehicle transportation from the preparing dealer to the convention center.

For the show structure review, we have collected information about all the auto shows in the United States. We have input all the information into a comprehensive database and worked with the market research group to calculate our results.

Attached, please find the spreadsheet with our calculation based on the point system we developed. The point system allows all the shows to be ranked on the same basis.

For example: The New York Auto Show

• Attendance: 1,300,000 Attendance points: 13

• Total show sqft: 846,000 Sqft points: 8,46

• # of days: 10 # of Days points: 10 The point system is as follows:

• For attendance we gave 1 point per 100,000 people

• For total show sqft we gave 1 point per 100,000 sqft

• For # of days we gave 1 point per day

To calculate the total points we added the attendance points and sqft points and multiplied it by the # of days. For the New York Auto Show this will result in a total of 214.6 points. This will give the show a third place in the total ranking.

This ranking system is just a portion of the auto show review. The point system will not be used ‘exclusively” to rank shows.

For example we recognize that the high ranking for the Texas State Fair auto show should be discounted since the number of days distorts this picture.

Our next step will be to review the markets by penetration, opportunity lost and regional input.

If you have any additional information or comments on the show structure, please let us know before June 2

nd

.

We would appreciate your help.
