A Short Biography of the Author

Mustafa Ali Sezal was born on 18 July 1987 in Çankaya, Ankara, Turkey. He graduated from Bilkent University Department of International Relations with High Honours in 2008. He was awarded the ‘Jean Monnet Scholarship’ by the European Commission for his master’s studies. He received his master’s degree in Security Studies from the Aberystwyth University in 2009. He worked briefly for the Australian Embassy in Ankara as a Research Officer in the political/economic section. Before coming to Groningen to complete his PhD he was a Research Assistant at Yildirim Beyazit University in Ankara. His research and teaching interests include Critical Theory, International Relations Theories, Critical Security Studies, and Political Philosophy. His co-authored article “Dark Taints on the Looking Glass: Whither ‘New Turkey’?” was recently published in the Turkish Studies journal.
