1. Future assessments of a country electricity’s water footprint must include detailed information on the spatial and temporal variations of water availability (whole Thesis).
2. The peer-review process of academic publishing has failed to avoid double counting and misreporting of water-electricity nexus data sources (Chapter 2).
3. Summarizing tables that show water footprints per technology in scientific publications should be avoided as they lack original data (Chapter 2 and 4).
4. Ecuadorian electricity requirements cannot be met solely with hydropower (Chapter 5).
5. Future Sustainable energy supply should not just focus on small water footprints, particularly in the case of hydropower plants (Chapter 6).
6. Open and free satellite images and software such as Google Earth© are making environmental science more transparent (Chapter 4, 5, and 6).
