Help mee aan uw veilige

behandeling – Engels

Help make your treatment as safe as possible in the outpatient’s clinic

1. Prepare your visit to the hospital well

What is the reason for your visit? What information is required in order to make a

diagnosis properly? What questions do you want to ask? What medication do you need and what are you allergic to? Pass on any changes in your personal details (address, GP, etc.).

Ask someone to come with you. Two people hear and remember more than one person.

2. Give your care provider all the information about your health condition

It is important that you tell the healthcare provider about all your complaints. The

healthcare provider needs all this information to provide a good diagnosis and determine which treatment is

necessary. Explain which symptoms you have, when they occur and how long you have been having them.

3. Ask for explanation if you don’t understand something

The healthcare provider will give you a lot of information about what is wrong with you

and the tests that are necessary The healthcare provider will also discuss the treatment, possible risks and what you can do for a good result. It is important that you understand the information properly. So that it is clear at the end of your visit what you can expect and what you have to do yourself. Do you think that something has gone wrong? Discuss this then.

4. Ask for time to think things over for difficult decisions

You decide if the proposed treatment or the examination will be carried out and give your permission for this. Do you want to think about this first and not make a decision right now? Ask your healthcare provider for some time to think things over. Arrange together how and when you will inform them of your decision.

5. Follow instructions and advice carefully

Follow the appointments you make with the care provider about your treatment. Ask what you can or can not do. Do you feel that some of the advice or information is conflicting? Let your healthcare provider know.

6. Consider whether everything is clear

Check that everything is clear before you leave the consultation room. When is the

following appointment or the follow up examination planned for? What do I need to do to prepare for the operation or treatment? In which location do I need to report to the next time? Make sure that you know when and who you can speak to if you have questions and problems. Involve a family member or friend in this conversation.
