ORGANISATION OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM
Die N asionale M u s e u m is een van 2 2 V erklaarde K ulturele instellings w a t deur die staat gesubsideer w ord. Die m useum is die grootste algem ene m useum in die land, dit w il se dit is 'n n atuurhistoriese, kultuu rh isto riese en kun sm u seu m . Die m useum versam el op sistem atiese en selektiew e w yse voorw erpe, eksem plare en voorbeelde sowel as inligting van n atu urw etenskaplike, kulturele, bistoriese, tegnologiese en kunshistoriese belang oor die hele spektrum van die voorgeskiedenis tot die hede. Die taak van die m useum is om sodanige voorw erpe, eksem plare, voorbeelde, v e rs a m e lin g s e n inligting te dokum enteer, te beveilig, te bew aar, te konserveer, wacir nodig te restoureer, te o n tslu it, te bestudeer en bekend te stel.
Die funksie van die m useum w o rd verdeel in vier kom ponente w a t as ’n eenheid fun ksioneer.
The m useum is one of 2 2 declared C ultural Institu tio ns subsidised by the state. The N atio n al M u s e u m is one of the largest general m useum in the country, viz. it is a n atu ral history, c ultural history and a rt m useum . The M u s e u m system atically and selectively collects item s specimens and exam ples, as w e ll as info rm ation relevant to the n atu ral science, culture, history, technology and art history over the w h o le spectrum of prehistory up to the present. It is the task of the M u s e u m to docum ent, to preserve, to conserve, to restore if necessary, to m ake available, to study and to prom ote such item s, specimens, exam ples, collections and info rm ation .
The fun ctio n of the m useum can be divided in fo u r com ponents, w h ic h are closely related.
