Petra E. Verburg was born on the 21st of October 1987 in Piaam, the Netherlands. She went to primary school at Basisschool de Ark in Makkum and to secondary school at Christelijke Scholen Gemeenschap Bogerman in Sneek. She graduated pre-university education in 2006.
After moving to Groningen, she attended Medical School in 2006 at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen in Groningen, The Netherlands. In 2010 she finished her Bachelor degree. After a short break, she continued her Master degree in Medicine in Groningen. The second year of her clinical rotations she was located at Medisch Centrum Leeuwarden in Leeuwarden. She finished her second year with a social clinical rotation in Paramaribo, Surinam. In 2013, during her final year, she travelled to Adelaide, Australia for a research elective of 6 months at the Epidemiology branch of South Australia Health and Robinson Research Institute of the University of Adelaide. She was supervised by Professors Jan Jaap H.M. Erwich, Gustaaf A. Dekker and Claire T. Roberts. She returned to the Netherlands in November 2013. After her pre-registration clinical rotation, at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Department of Urology at Medisch Centrum Leeuwarden in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, she graduated Medical school in April 2014.
Between April 2014 and March 2015 she worked at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen, The Netherlands, in preparation to her PhD-project.
Partly self-funded she returned to Adelaide in 2015. Since March 2015 she coordinated and collected data for the Screening Tests to predict poor Outcomes of Pregnancy (STOP) study. Additionally, she was involved in several smaller studies, successfully supervised eight research students and was involved in several research focus groups, whilst working on her PhD.
In April 2018 she returned to The Netherlands and moved to Arnhem, and decided to combine her research career with clinical work. Currently, she is working as a resident Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Rijnstate Ziekenhuis in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
