• What does the process of collecting, analyzing, reporting and interpreting fingermark evidence in the criminal justice system look like internationally?
• What can we learn from each other?
Methods
Interviews, questionnaire, 3D-experiments
Would you like to participate in this study? Please leave your name, email address and organization & function title.
Curious about the 3d-experiment?
Try it yourself!
Provide an overview of
- current situation of the collection, analyses and interpretation of fingermarks in the Netherlands - the needs and opportunities in fingermark practice - the possibilities for the implementation of new fingermark
opportunities
- an international comparison of fingermark use
Several methods will be used:
Ø Literature review Ø Observations Ø Interviews Ø Questionnaires
Ø Analyzing files of criminal investigations Ø Analyzing court files
Ø 3D-experiment Ø Vignette study
PhD study: Full use of latent prints – Beyond the lines
Objectives
Method
Currently, focus in latent fingerprints is only on the friction ridge patterns.
However, research has shown there is more information in latent prints:
New information from fingermark prints:
Ø Chemical analyses of fats and acids left in a fingermark print - information about e.g. DNA, diet, drug use, medicine use Ø The position of fingermarks - information on activity level Two PhD students study the chemical information and activity level of fingermarks.
This study creates an overview of the current situation and future possibilities of fingermark evidence.
