Martijn Leander Dijkstra was born on January 26th 1985 in Wageningen, The Netherlands. He grew up in Leeuwarden with his parents and his younger brother Frank. In 2003 he gradu-ated from high school, moved to Groningen and started medical school. During his rotations in the Martini Hospital, Groningen, he became fascinated by the (minimally invasive) treatment of vascular disease. After completing his final rotations in vascular surgery and interventional

radiology he had the opportunity to conduct a research internship at the Cleve-land Clinic (CleveCleve-land, OH, U.S.A.) with dr. Eagleton and dr. Greenberg. His first clinical experience was gained as a general surgical resident in the Deventer Hospital, and working with Prof. Lane and dr. Mohabbat in Sydney Australia. In 2013 he started his surgical training at the University Medical Center Gron-ingen (UMCG) under the supervision of Prof. Heineman. This was also when he turned his previous research into a PhD program under the supervision of Prof. Zeebregts. In 2015 he transferred to the Martini Ziekenhuis were he still works to this date, training under supervision of dr. Kelder and dr. Keller in both general and vascular surgery.
