tamara Verkerk-Brussee is geboren op 31 december 1982 te eindhoven. Zij behaalde haar VWO-diploma in 2001, aan het Christiaan Huygens College te eindhoven. in eerste instantie is ze techniek en maatschappij gaan studeren aan de technische universiteit eindhoven, waarna ze na enige tijd de overstap maakte naar de opleiding Optometrie aan de Hogeschool utrecht. in 2006 behaalde zij haar diploma waarna ze van 2006 tot 2007 gewerkt heeft als low-vision specialist bij Sensis (nu Koninklijke Visio) te eindhoven. Van 2007 tot 2010 heeft ze als optometrist bij het elkerliek Ziekenhuis te Helmond en Deurne gewerkt. in 2011 startte ze met haar promotieonderzoek bij de afdeling oogheelkunde van het Vu medisch Centrum te amsterdam. Ze heeft zowel bij het Vumc als het elkerliek Ziekenhuis aan haar onderzoek gewerkt. Sinds 2016 is ze werkzaam als projectleider voor de stichting eye For Zambia, gevestigd te Houten. in 2017 is ze samen met haar gezin naar Zambia verhuisd om ter plaatse het opzetten van een oogkliniek te ondersteunen. als buitenpromovendus heeft ze haar promotieonderzoek gecombineerd met de zorg voor drie kinderen geboren in 2010, 2012 en 2016.
