Wendela Kolkman was born on June 14th, 1975 in The Hague.

She attended the Rijnlands Lyceum in Wassenaar, which she finished in 1993.

Next she studied medicine at the Rijksuniversiteit Leiden. As a medical student

she worked at the Stichting Eurotransplant in Leiden as an organ transplantation

allocation coordinator.

After graduation in 1998, she was involved in research for her graduation project

at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in the U.S.A. with Prof. Dr.

C.J.H. van de Velde (Department of Surgery of thte Leiden University Medical

Center) as her Dutch supervisor.

After obtaining her Medical Degree in March 2002, she worked as a resident at

the Leyenburg Hospital (Dr. P.A. de Jong) for the period of one year, during which

she was involved in two studies with Dr. Frank Willem Jansen (Department of

Gynecology, LUMC) on laparoscopic surgery during pregnancy and entry related

complications during laparoscopic surgery.

In May 2003 she was appointed as AGIKO (resident and PhD student) at the

Department of Gynecology at the LUMC and started the studies described this thesis

(Prof. Dr. Baptist Trimbos and Dr. Frank Willem Jansen, promoters).
