“Probing the nature of dark matter
with the power spectrum of small-scale mass structure in massive elliptical lens galaxies”
1. While a direct detection of the dark-matter particle remains very challenging, phenomenological dark-matter models can be constrained based on the statistical properties of small-scale sub-galactic mass structure. — (Chapters 2, 3, 4) 2. A statistical analysis of surface-brightness anomalies in the extended lensed images
of galaxy-galaxy strong gravitational lens systems opens a new window to study the small-scale mass structure in galaxies beyond the Local Group. — (Chapters 2, 3) 3. An accurate measurement of surface-brightness anomalies in extended lensed
images requires a careful consideration of all observational effects and modelling degeneracies. — (Chapter 2).
4. The fundamental quantity determining the level of surface-brightness anomalies in the lensed images is the variance of the deflection-angle perturbations induced by the mass structure in the lens galaxy or along its line of sight. — (Chapter 3) 5. It is possible to infer constraints on the variance and the power-law slope of the
sub-galactic mass power spectrum from the power spectrum of surface-brightness anomalies in extended lensed images. — (Chapters 3, 4)
6. Signal suppression in the grid-based smooth lens modelling requires more attention from the lensing community. If not properly accounted for, it might lead to biased lens and source models. — (Chapter 4)
7. In the current academic system, there are too many PhD students and too few permanent positions. This can lead to unhealthy competition, selfishness and lack of true collaborations.
8. Good feedback is constructive and arises from a genuine wish to help the other person grow.
9. If given the space they deserve, female leaders could provide new solutions to the numerous pressing problems of the modern world. Closing the gender gap, and encouraging diversity in general, should become the priority of our global society. 10. Mastering life means to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances while staying true
to your values.
