Neill R e n w i c k was b o r n in C a m b r i d g e , Kngland o n 12 Sep-t e m b e rr 1968 and e d u c a Sep-t e d aSep-t SainSep-t KenSep-tigern College, A u c k l a n d ,, N e w Z e a l a n d . H e w o n a J u n i o r National Schol-arshipp and was a d m i t t e d t o t h e S c h o o l of Medicine at the Universityy o f O t a g o in 1988. O n c o m p l e t i o n of the preclini-call c u r r i c u l u m , Neil u n d e r t o o k research o n the molecular geneticss o f D u c h e n n e M u s c u l a r D v s t r o p h v as the recipient o ff a s c h o l a r s h i p from the Medical Research Council of N e w Z e a l a n dd and the AFJ Mickle Scholarship in Medicine. This w o r kk e a r n e d him t h e d e g r e e o f Bachelor of Medical Science (B.Med.Sci.)) in B i o c h e m i s t r y in 1991.
Afterr c o m p l e t i n g clinical studies, Neil Renwick g r a d u a t e d B a c h e l o rr o f M e d i c i n e , B a c h e l o r o f Surgery (M.B., Ch. B.) in 19933 and w o r k e d first as an I n t e r n , t h e n as a Resident at the Royall P r i n c e Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia from 1994-95.. H e s u b s e q u e n t l y gained a D i p l o m a of Tropical
Medicinee and Hygiene (D.T.M.& H.) from Mahidol Uni-versity,, Bangkok. Neil returned t o Australia in 1996 as Med-icall Registrar o n the Royal Prince Alfred's Rural and Re-motee D i a b e t e s Project in N e w South Wales. H e was also sentt to P a p u a N e w G u i n e a to work as a Medical Registrar at Portt M o r e s b y General Hospital.
