Sabine Nathalie van der Veer werd op zondag 28 september 1975 geboren in Amersfoort. Ze groeide daar op en bezocht er de lagere en middelbare school. Na het behalen van haar VWO diploma verhuisde ze in 1994 naar Amsterdam. Als doctorandus in de Medische Informatiekunde (MIK) verliet ze vier jaar later het Academisch Medisch Centrum (AMC) voor een ruim twee jaar durend aventura española. Begin 2001 keerde zij er terug als ICT projectmanager bij de afdeling Klinische Automatisering, in welke hoedanigheid zij diverse bedside applicaties implementeerde en beheerde. Naar aanleiding van het begeleiden van een MIK afstudeerstage schreef ze haar eerste wetenschappelijke artikel, en niet lang daarna verruilde ze in 2007 de praktijk voor het onderzoek. Tijdens haar promotie op de afdeling Klinische Informatiekunde van het AMC werkte ze tevens enkele maanden als NephroQUEST research fellow bij de UK Renal Registry (Bristol, UK), en was zij lid van de implementatiewerkgroep van de European Renal Best Practice (ERBP) group. Sinds februari 2012 is ze voltijds werkzaam als ERBP fellow, waarbij ze onderzoek doet naar de implementatie van nefrologische richtlijnen in Europa.

In haar vrije tijd is Sabine regelmatig te vinden in de Amsterdamse theaters, concertzalen, en eet-en drinkgelegenheden. Vakanties brengt ze het liefst lopend of fietsend door in de bergen.
