PROPOSITIONS

accompanying the dissertation

MAGNON SPIN TRANSPORT IN MAGNETIC INSULATORS . Incoherent thermal magnons can serve as high-fidelity carriers of spin

infor-mation over distances much longer than their mean-free path. [chapter] . The magnon chemical potential is a crucial ingredient in any theoretical

description of magnonic spin and spin Seebeck related transport in magnetic insulators. [chapter]

. When an established numerical model produces a counterintuitive result, the true value of such a model becomes apparent. [chapter]

. Magnon transport can be manipulated using electronic currents, yet for magnon spintronics to ever be succesfully integrated in large-scale logic circuits efficient modulation of the transport of magnons via electric fields is essential. [chapter]

. Robotization and digitalization can provide balance to the demographic aging trends that will result in a deficit of human labor in the coming century, and are as such crucial to maintain economic growth. However, they should be accompanied by a broad educational effort to help people adapt to the changing job market.

. The Dutch regulations regarding paternal leave do not even remotely do justice to the impact the early days of fatherhood have on a man and his family.

. The tendency to overstate the societal consequences of research in high-impact scientific publications and subsequent press releases will ultimately deflate the value of science as perceived by society.

. In research anything that can be automated should be automated.

. The most important task of science communication is not to explain how science works, but rather why it is worth pursuing. Unfortunately, this is also the most difficult part.

MAGNON SPIN TRANSPORT IN MAGNETISCHE ISOLATOREN .

Controlled magnon spin transport in insulating magnets: from linear to nonlinear regimes.. University

After hundreds of years of exploration, we now know that the building blocks of magnetic materials are atoms or molecules with nonzero magnetic mo- ments due almost entirely to

In order to study their transport properties, magnons are excited at site A by a stim- ulus, such as an electrical current, a heat source or a microwave field.. The generated

Thereafter, the microwave magnon excitation method is explained, including the microwave set-up, the typical measurement setting and expected results for the microwave reflection

In this section, we quantitatively study the influence of the out-of-plane sample mis- alignment on the angle dependent measurement, in order to confirm that the char- acteristic

Since there are two SHE processes during injection and detection of the magnon spins, any negative sign of the spin Hall angle for both injector and detector is canceled out and

Two approaches are used to study the angle-dependent nonlocal results: An angle-dependent analysis, as used in the proof-of-principle three-terminal magnon transistor work [1], and

The resulting magnons propagate inside the YIG and they can be picked up by the second HM strip (the magnon detector), where the detected spin currents are transferred back to a
