DANKWOORD
Dit proefschrift had het levenslicht niet gezien zonder de hulp van vele personen. Hieronder wil ik een aantal van hen in het bijzonder bedanken. Lof over dit proefschrift komt mede onderstaande personen toe, eventuele fouten zijn echter alleen aan mij toe te schrijven. Allereerst en bovenal: prof. dr. Boermeester. Beste Marja, zonder jouw ideeën, je tomeloze inzet en je kritische blik was dit proefschrift niet geworden wat het nu is. Sterker nog, het was er waarschijnlijk helemaal niet geweest. Ik heb ontzag en bewondering voor de manier waarop jij klinische zorg weet te combineren met het doen van gedegen wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Ik kijk er naar uit om weer met je te mogen samenwerken en nog veel van je te leren.

Curriculum vitae
CURRICULUM VITAE
Jasper (Jan) Atema werd geboren op 24 januari 1984 in Leeuwarden en groeide op in het Friese Akkrum. Hij doorliep het VWO op het OSG Sevenwolden te Heerenveen. Vanaf 2002 studeerde hij Geneeskunde aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Na onder andere een jaar coschappen te hebben gelopen in het Sint Elisabeth Ziekenhuis te Curaçao, behaalde hij zijn artsexamen in december 2009. Hij werkte vervolgens als arts-assistent op de afdeling Heelkunde van het Sint Lucas Andreas Ziekenhuis en het Academisch Medisch Centrum, beide in Amsterdam. In 2012 startte hij, onder begeleiding van prof. dr. M.A. Boermeester, met het onderzoek dat heeft geleid tot dit proefschrift. In juli 2015 is hij begonnen met de opleiding tot chirurg in het Sint Lucas Andreas Ziekenhuis (opleider dr. B.C. Vrouenraets).
