PROPOSITIONS
accompanying the dissertation
“INSTRUMENTATION DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE
RADIO-DEVICES TO IMPROVE THE COMING CYCLES OF
RADIO ASTRONOMY OBSERVATIONS”
1) The development of multi-frequency receivers is, certainly, one of the most promising ways to improve the ALMA telescope in the coming decade. 2) Since its higher mapping speed multi-pixel receiver systems represent a
good choice to allocate more observation time without the necessity of building new infrastructure.
3) Future space missions endowed with cutting-edge THz technology will be the key to unveil the unsolved questions around the early stages of the universe.
4) Frequency-selective surfaces made of single layer systems can achieve enough efficiency to be used in low-noise radio astronomical applications. 5) Given their ease in fabrication, optimized-profile smooth-walled horns are called to be the number one candidate for replacing corrugated horns in astronomical receivers operating at THz frequencies.
6) Reducing the production cost of radio devices will make them more accessible to research groups, and thus, the budget-barrier to carry out research in radio science will be pushed down.
7) If we, humans, aim a better world to live in, people’s habits must be oriented to look for the benefit of the community rather than satisfying their personal cravings.
8) Due to their high construction cost, astronomical facilities can be considered as the cathedrals of the XXI century.
9) Even if humankind reaches the point where its consumerism destroys the environmental conditions in which it can survive, life on planet Earth will prevail by getting rid of humans.
10) Among all the relevant things that can be learned throughout a Ph.D., writing a book is, undoubtedly, one of the most valuable.
