Massimoo Morra has graduated in Medicine and Surgery (with a score of 110/110

cumcum laude) in the year 1994 from University of Torino, Italy and has later received

hiss Diploma as Specialist in Clinical Pathology from the same Medical School. Massimoo scientific training has first started with Prof. Fabio Malavasi at Institute of Genetics,, Torino, Italy, by functionally characterize immune system receptors, in particularr the CD38 molecule. After he has joined the research team led by Prof. Cox Terhorstt at Division of Immunology, Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconesss Medical Center, Boston, USA, where he currently holds the position of Instructorr in Medicine. In the Cox Terhorst's Laboratory, Massimo has had the opportunityy to perfect and acquire new technical skills as well as to be part of a highlyy educative scientific environment. The work presented in this Ph.D. Thesis representss part of the results obtained over the past years. The results presented in Chapterr 3 have been awarded the IX "PBI" Prize for the Research in Immunology at thee XXIX National Italian Conference of Immunology. Massimo is a former Fellow off the American Italian Cancer Foundation (years 2000-2002) and Special Fellow of thee Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America (year 2002-present).
