Habib Benzian
Habib Benzian (26-1-1963, Bonn) graduated from the Free University of Berlin in 1987 and obtained the degree of “Dr. med.dent.”
After specializing in oral surgery and oral pathology (“Fachzahnarzt Oralchirurgie”) he worked for 13 years in several clinical settings, including private practice and maxillo-facial surgery departments of hospitals, as well as volunteer placements in several sub-Saharan African countries. In 2001 he obtained a MSc in Dental Public Health from King’s College, London, and became the first Director for Public
Health and Development of the FDI World Dental Federation. He both
coordinated and co-authored The Oral Health Atlas, a publication
mapping the neglected state of oral health worldwide. Currently he is founding director of The Health Bureau Ltd, a UK-based consulting
firm through which he focuses on global health issues such as non-communicable diseases, oral health, school health, water & sanitation, as well as health policy and evaluation. On behalf of the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) he serves as advisor for integrated
school health programmes in a number of countries. As a consultant for the WHO African and South-East Asian Regions he supports efforts
for the improvement of oral health and the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases. He has worked and lectured in numerous countries around the world and serves as Honorary Lecturer
in dental public health at the University College London.
