The Library's primary task is to serve you well. Like other departments on campus we have to provide quality service to enable staff and students to do their work. Therefore we need to know how you rate our service.

This year we are using, alongside UCT, Stellenbosch, Rhodes and UP, a system called LibQUAL+™. It is a state of the art system which was developed by the Association of Research Libraries in the USA and is used by eminent academic libraries worldwide. It is a web-based questionnaire that only requires you to click and where you only have to type if you really want to. After the survey period we hope to use your feedback and those of other users to have a critical look at ourselves and to improve on what we are doing.

May I request that you grant us a few minutes of your time and complete the questionnaire? If you want tot do it right away, go to http://survey.libqual.org/index.cfm?ID=902277

If you require more information about LibQUAL+™ and the survey, go to http://www.puk.ac.za/biblioteek/libqual_e.html (There will be a link to go to the questionnaire.)

(By the way: there are a few prizes for those completing the questionnaire.)

Thank you very much,

Tom Larney

SAePublications provides South African electronic journals in full text format.

This database began with 40 titles and currently provides full text to 192 journal titles. It is useful for the researcher because:

The journal title list indicates if a journal is accredited in ISI or IBSS.

Every journal title has a direct link to the "Guideline for authors".

Each journal also links directly to the "Table of content" for that specific journal for the last 4 years.

Searches can be limited to accredited journals only.

The Library has two training facilities namely, Besembos and Tarentaal. Students and staff can book these facilities at the Information desk in the library, or by phoning 299 2802.

ResearchResearch is the world's leading publisher of news and information for the international research community. The information on this site is stored in 3 interlinked databases:

1. Funding opportunities 2. Sponsors

3. News

The Library provides Reference Manager as a useful tool to assist you in the creation of your bibliography. Reference Manager makes the following possible: Search online bibliographic databases and retrieve the references directly into Reference Manager.

Store, manage, organize references easily in your personal reference database.

Watch the bibliography appear as you write! Contact Corrie Breitenbach at

(018) 299 2803 for more information.

International Index to Music Periodicals enables you to search and browse hundreds of music journals covering a broad scope of research from performance, theory and composition to music education, jazz and ethnomusicology. It provides indexing, abstracts and selected full text coverage of the most important music journals - all integrated in one site.

The Library frequently looks at new databases in different fields of study. We usually request a trial period in which to evaluate these databases. At the end of the trial period we attach an evaluation report to these databases as reference. View these databases here. Personnel are welcome to recommend databases. Contact Louise Vos at x 2788.

I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it.
