The house, nam ed a fte r the village Freshford in England, w here C aroline H a rrison w a s born, w a s com pleted in 1 8 9 7 and the H a rrison fa m ily stayed there u n til A u g u s t 1901. A t the end of the A n g lo Boer W a r the H a rriso n s left fo r Eng land fo r a sh o rt w h ile . M o st of th e ir fu rn itu re w a s sold in B lo em fo n te in before they left. A t present Freshford is being restored by the N a tio na l M u se um as a period house m useum .

Som e of the item s are already in the possession of the N a tio n a l M u se um , w h ile the o th e rs w ill be presented once the re sto ra tio n of the house has been com pleted. Silver thimble which was used by Kate Caroline Harrison. The silver mark indicates that it was made in Birmingham in 1901.
