Curriculumm vitae

Annee Brédart in born in Belgium in 1961. She obtained a license in psychology and pedagogy at the Freee University of Brussels (Belgium) en 1984 and a master's degree in counselling and consulting psychologyy at Harvard University (Boston, USA) in 1989. She received a training in children psychotherapyy at the Belgian League of Mental Health and in family therapy at the Institute for the Studyy of Families and Human Systems (Brussels).

Inn 1989, she has been engaged at the CAM, a research and training centre associated to Jules Bordett Institute in Brussels. At the CAM, she undertook clinical studies in the field of psycho-oncologyy and quality of life assessment. She is an active member of the European Organisation for Researchh and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Study Group (EORTC QOLSG), since 92. She workedd on development and validation, in Belgium, of the EORTC quality of life core questionnaire (QLQ-C30)) and head and neck module (QLQ-H&N35). She performed studies on the screening for psychologicall distress in cancer patients and on the quality of life of cancer patients in remission. She participatedd in research programs aimed at evaluating the effects of training in communication skills forr health care professionals working in oncology. Her interest in the assessment of cancer patient satisfactionn with care originates from her clinical experience at the psycho-oncology and rehabilitation unitt at Jules Bordet Institute and from a wish to assess interventions aimed at improving the overall caree of cancer patients, in particular with regard to their interactions with health care providers.

Inn 1996, she obtained a grant from the American-Italian Cancer Foundation to set up a psycho-oncologyy research unit at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan (Italy). It was an opportunity to implementt a study aimed at developing and validating across different countries a patient satisfaction questionnairee for cancer patients. This work was backed up by members of the EORTC QOLSG. It composess the subject of the present thesis, undertaken under the direction of Prof. Dr. JCJM de Haes.

Sincee April 2000, Anne Brédart works as a clinical psychologist and researcher at Curie Institute. Herr main activities focus on the psychological care of cancer patients and their families. She also co-ordinatess a research program on the impact of a communication skills training implemented in differentt oncology centres in France.
