Curriculum Vitae

Leontien Barbara van der Aa werd op 12 juni 1977 geboren in Amsterdam. Zij groeide op in Amsterdam en slaagde in 1995 voor haar eindexamen op het Barlaeus Gymnasium. In hetzelfde jaar startte zij met de studie Geneeskunde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Zij behaalde haar propedeuse en doctoraal Geneeskunde cum laude. Tijdens haar studie woonde zij een half jaar in Philadelphia, Verenigde Staten, alwaar zij aan de University of Pennsylvania onderzoek deed op het gebied van de kinderoncologie. In 2002 behaalde zij haar arts-examen, waarna ze als AGNIO kindergeneeskunde werkte in het Meander Medisch Centrum in Amerfoort, het Diakonessenhuis in Utrecht en het Emma Kinderziekenhuis AMC in Amsterdam. In 2005 begon zij in het Emma Kinderziekenhuis AMC aan het onderzoek dat geleid heeft tot dit proefschrift, onder leiding van prof. dr. Hugo Heymans, prof. dr. Wim van Aalderen en dr. Aline Sprikkelman. Sinds 1 juli 2009 is zij in opleiding tot kinderarts in het opleidingscluster Emma Kinderziekenhuis AMC. Zij startte haar opleiding in het Medisch Centrum Alkmaar, onder leiding van dr. Wilfried Hack. Leontien van der Aa is heel gelukkig getrouwd met Martijn Bruijn. Samen hebben zij een zoon, Tobias.
