A n e w d e v e l o p m e n t c a n , h o w e v e r , b e d i s c e r n e d in t h e w r i t i n g s o f t h e y o u n g e r w r i t e r s o f t h a t t i m e . A n a m b i v a l e n t a p p r o a c h a p p e a r s in t h e i r w o r k . T h e i r s t a r t i n g - p o i n t w a s t h e i r o w n w a r e x p e r i e n c e s . T h e A r a b s w e r e p a r t o f t h e i r c h i l d h o o d e x p e r i e n c e s , b u t t h e y b e c a m e e n e m i e s in w a r . T h i s r e s u l t e d in c o n f u s i o n in t h e i r souls, c o n f u s i o n t h a t is o fte n e x p r e s s e d in t h e i r w ritin g s. T h e p o l i t i c a l p r o b l e m s t h a t s t a r t e d w i t h t h e a w a k e n i n g o f A r a b n a t i o n a l i s m b e f o r e t h e S e c o n d W o r l d W a r i n c r e a s e d t h e ho stility b e t w e e n J e w s a n d A r a b s . H e p o i n t e d o u t t h e e x p e r i e n c e s o f t h e J e w s d u r i n g t h e H o l o c a u s t a n d d e m o n s t r a t e d t h a t t h e J e w s d i d c o m p a r a b l e t h i n g s to t h e A r a b s a f t e r t h e W a r o f L i b e r a t i o n . I n his sto ry H irbet H izca (1949) h e i l lu s tr a t e s t h e r o u g h h a n d l i n g o f t h e A r a b s b y t h e J e w i s h soldiers. H e t o u c h e s o n t h e m o r a l p r o b l e m in th is m a n n e r a n d h a s a n e y e fo r t h a t w h i c h is w r o n g in o n e ’s o w n m i d s t . T h e d i d a c t i c a i m s o f this d e s c r i p t i o n a r e q u i t e c le a r .
