O V E R the past few years some 4 0 0 0 Bantu school children annually visited the M useum in organized groups. These groups were allowed into the M useum free of charge and were conducted only by their own teachers. During N ovem ber 1975 we suggested to the D epartem ent of Bantu E ducation that they appoint a qualified person to the M useum to act as guide-lecturer to such groups. There was immediate response to this suggestion. A new post was created and during Ja n u a ry Mr. Edwin M ohatlane (left) was appointed and assumed service.
After an intial training period he now handles two school groups per day with a total o f about 1 2 0 0 school children per month. G r o u p s now visit the M useum on an organised basis where they are formally lectured to and conducted through the Museum by the guide-lecturer. We are sincerely grateful towards the D e p arte ment of Bantu E ducation for their very positive attitude which greatly facilitated the rendering o f this im portant service.
