Jeroen Ludikhuize was born in Wormerveer (the Netherlands) on the 26th of February 1980. In 1998, he graduated from secondary school (Athenaeum) at ‘t Echnaton in Almere. From 1998 until 2005, he studied Medical Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. From 2001 until 2007, he studied Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. During these years, he also gained experience in doing fundamental research in
immunology on the role of PI3kinases in regulation apoptosis in rheumatoid arthritis at the department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the University of
Amsterdam under the supervision of Prof. Dr. P.P. Tak and Dr. K.A. Reedquist. He was able to publish three papers, assisted with arthroscopies for scientific purposes and attended various international conferences.
For about half a year, he worked as a resident in acute psychiatry at Dijk en Duin in Castricum. In 2008, he started working on his PhD on detection and management of deteriorating patients on nursing wards under the supervision of Prof. Dr. P.J.M. Bakker and Prof. Dr. E. de Jonge.
To remain clinically active and stay sharp, he kept working at Dijk and Duin performing 24-hour shifts during weekends. Through the experiences gained in his work together with the clinical setting of his PhD, his interests in the field of anaesthesiology grew and he will start his residency in anaesthesiology on the 1st of September 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. W.S. Schlack at the University of Amsterdam.
Jeroen Ludikhuize was married in September 2013 and lives happily together with his partner Anna Antiena Kemman in Amsterdam.
